Gendered Justice: Inequalities in the Minimum Age of Criminal Responsibility in Iran

Using the minimum age of criminal responsibility (MACR) in Iran as an illustration, this article explores continued resistance against girls’ rights some Islamic countries. The gendered construction childhood has resulted a differential MACR, which for boys is notably higher than that recommended by United Nations Committee on Rights Child, yet girls unacceptably low. While breaches other areas are defended grounds paternalistic concerns, it argued MACR religious-politico decision that, Iran, upholds but denies girls, propagating their wider subjugation.
